Marwan Al-Sayed, Inc. , Architecture + Design is a practice originally established in 1997. In 2012 the studio relocated its offices to the Los Angeles area and is committed to a broad range of design encompassing everything from master planning development to building design, interiors, furniture and product design. The firm has become internationally recognized for its innovative and progressive design aesthetic.

It was the completion of a Fifth Avenue Penthouse renovation overlooking Central Park in 1995, that first gained Marwan local, national and international attention for his own unique design sensibilities.   New York Magazine featured the work and cited Marwan as “one of the best young architects in the country.” In 1996 Marwan was awarded, the “Young Architects Award”, by The Architectural League of New York City who recognize emerging architects nationally and subsequently was honored by the League with their Emerging Voices lecture series.

The studios first built freestanding structure, The House of Earth and Light in Phoenix, Arizona, completed in 2000, was selected to be in The National Design Triennial at the Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design in NYC, a national survey of ground breaking work in the fields of architecture, industrial and product design, graphics, film and fashion. This house was prominently featured in the New York Times as well as appearing on HGTV, The Discovery Channel and numerous other design publications. The house has been extensively featured in ad campaigns for Calvin Klein Home, Audi and others. Most recently, the house was included in the book Living Architecture, Greatest American Houses of the 20th Century, published by Assouline Press.

In 2006, Marwan received an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in New York, in recognition for his unique contribution to the field of design.

The firm has been commissioned for residential projects on the coast of Oregon, Sun Valley, Idaho, Paradise Valley, Arizona, “The Houses at Sagaponac”  (part of a development of houses featuring 32 prominent national architects) as well as in Dubai, UAE.

Since 2000, the studio has been increasingly involved in luxury resort and spa developments, beginning with the Mii Amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona (with Gluckman Mayner Architects). In 2009, work was completed on Singapore based Amanresorts newest property in the US, Amangiri. This 34 room resort and spa in southern Utah for the world’s most exclusive resort operator has since won numerous awards and accolades as one of the best resorts in North America and has also won numerous design awards from Travel and Leisure, Wallpaper and other international organizations. Currently, the studio is involved in master plans for resorts in British Columbia, Hawaii, the Canary Islands as well as Qatar.

The studio has also recently completed a master plan for a new private university in Dubai, UAE and is about to initiate design work on Phase One buildings for the new campus, involving academic, student life and recreational buildings as well as student and faculty housing. The studio is currently collaborating on prototypes for a line of outdoor/indoor furniture for B&B Italia and just recently participated in the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale “Common Ground” with an installation at the Casa Scaffali, Arsenale in Venice, Italy.
